Going Fishing

Sheriff Jalen Brooks was walking along the boardwalk through town as was his usual thing to do when making his rounds. He hadn’t seen Brett anywhere. He had been left to clean the jail and when The Sheriff had stopped by his young Deputy wasn’t there. He wondered what his partner was up to. He began to explore the alley ways between buildings as he hadn’t seen him on the street on his rounds.

Jalen finally saw his Deputy out behind the livery. He was cradling a large tin can in the crook of his arm that had some fresh dirt and worms hanging out of it. The Sheriff arched an eyebrow. “What are you doin’ Brett?”

The younger man looked up and asked, “what does it look like I’m doin’?”

Jalen gave his partner a stern look. “If I knew I wouldn’t be askin’. The last I knew you were supposed to be cleanin’ the jail.”

Bret said, “Goin’ fishin’.”

Jalen shook his head. “Wrong answer.”

Brett gulped. “Goin’ back and cleanin’ the jail?”

The Sheriff nodded. “Now you got it…get goin’.” He told the Deputy.

Brett still with the can of worms made his way past his partner, but not without receiving a resounding swat.

“Ouch!” He yelped. “I’m goin’…I’m goin’!” The Deputy made his way back to the jail to clean it as he was supposed to.
